Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Former "American Idol" contestant Vonzell Solomon was detained at an airport for an hour on Tuesday when security discovered an unloaded handgun in her purse. The singer was detained at Southwest Florida International Airport.
Solomon, who finished third in Season 4 of "Idol," was charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a weapon into the airport. The gun was confiscated from Solomon, but will most likely be returned to her when the case is complete.
Solomon's manager and father, Larry Goethie, told People.com, "Vonzell wants everyone to know that this was an honest mistake. She had a big purse and just didn't realize that the gun was in it."
He added that Solomon has a permit for the weapon, and carries it for safety during her long road trips. "She's a single woman, and she is sometimes in situations where she needs protection. She went through the classes for proper gun safety, and tries to do everything by the book."
The Lee Port Authority, which manages the airport, is treating the incident as a mistake also. The singer will be given a notice to appear in court at a later date. If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $1,000.
The hits just keep on coming for "American Idol" finalist Baby V.
Now the Bank of New York is foreclosing on Vonzell Solomon's Florida home. The house is toast -- i.e., on the auction block -- on June 16. This is the same "AI" wannabe that was busted Tuesday in a Florida airport for trying to board a plane carrying a gun. Rough coupla days!

I personally know Vonzell and her family. She is one of the most nicest/honest people you'll ever meet. I truly feel that this was a mistake and when it rains it pours. Hopefully she'll be able to get her life back in order and get back on her feet real soon. I'll be praying for her.
