Houston Comets - No more!

Why don't we support women's basketball? It's almost like the WNBA came out, and then slowly faded away. Why aren't we interested in seeing women in sports? The Houston Comets, who won the WNBA's first four championships (1997-2000), will cease operations later this week.

The Comets had been owned by the WNBA since the middle of last season, but because a buyer couldn't be found the team was informed by the league to shut down operations.

The Comets were originally owned by Leslie Alexander, owner of the Houston Rockets. He sold the team to a group headed by businessman Hilton Koch last year, but the league then took over the franchise.

There will reportedly be a dispersal draft next week for the players who were still under contract with the Comets.

Because of the Houston franchise ceasing operations, that leaves the WNBA with 13 clubs for the 2009 season.

I'll go ahead and be honest. Call me names, make comments about the womens movement, I've already heard them. I don't like women's basketball. I like men's basketball because I like to see big sweaty men running around tatted up. SUE ME! I'm real proud that women can play, but the truth is I can't so I really don't care. I know its bad, I know I should be standing up for women, but while y'all outside marchin, I'll be watchin Kevin Garnett and the Celtics.

Mina you're right. I was thinking the same thing. I don't play so I don't care. I can't relate to it. Plus, don't nobody wanna watch a bunch of girls running around in oversized clothes and I'm sorry but some of them look down right mannish. If it was some cute bitches in booty shorts that could play ball I bet you it would be different. I know it ain't right but it's the truth.

Mina and Aleishia I'm with all. I don't like women's basketball...never have. I don't want to see a much of sweaty man lookin' women running up and down the court. Sorry y'all that's just how I feel. Lebron James(my son's father) is who I'll be watching.

i undertsand if u just dont like women's basketball, thats fine with me. there are a lot of things that i dont like. but i play in the wnba and overseas in other countries in the offseason. i am currently in spain. but i must admit that i get offended when people say that wnba players look manly. that is a sterotype, and in all my years i have never looked manly. when i meet most poeple outside of basketball they actually are surprised when i tell them i play ball. you would be surprised yourselves how most of these young ladies look off the court. you can visit my page www.myspace.com/mrsdh. and i come to this site everyday. its gets a liuttle boring over here. have a blessed day everyone.

Wow that sucks. I feel real bad for the city of Houston. Though the NY Liberty fan in me is cheering about that. Hopefully the Comets can be revived. Someone talk to one of those Houston rappers. Couldn't be that much money to run a WNBA team.

*thinks about the first WNBA Championship between Comets and Liberty*

It has alot to do with Marketing I feel. Men's basketball in constantly thrown in your face whether you like it or not. Will the ladies really run to the club if one of the females from the WNBA was hosting a party or will they run to get in free before 11 pm to see Lebron (ffDiva001's baby daddy? There is also no lack of commercials during the season and the ESPN coverage is off the hook. You get 2 minutes of WNBA coverage then it's back to the NBA. Sorry Cola but I think we are old enough to know what a stereotype is and the true of the matter is a woman playing basketball...sweating...shorts sagging... is just not as attractive. But you have those Williams sisters in those lil skirts running around on the court people love it! Yeah it's sexist blah, blah, blah but it is what it is.

I loved womens basketball, those women got a man going...

And I love some thick sisters too.

A man have got to expand his horizons never limit yourself to one area in life.

It was just so disheartening to hear a woman found love in another womans arms.

That is very belittling of the male species.

Lack of marketing for sure.

I have never been to a game but I would be a supporter because a few ladies from SC are now playing in the WBNA. The only one I can think of right now is Ivory Latta who plays for Detroit Shock (York, SC native). People from all over would come see her in high school cause she would score half the points during each basketball game. I have been to one NBA game. Either way, living here you got to drive miles just to see some form of entertainment anyway.

Men's basketball is more interesting though...whew!
