See, he was right when he did what he did to the "right" student, cause I got some nephews who would have changed his whoooole outlook after he took a sledge hammer to their brand new phone.
Yes, indeed. I ain't mad at him, but that was a bit drastic, don't you think?

Take it & keep it for a few days or let his parents have to come & get it might have worked better.
The extreme to which the teacher went just might cause him some problem.
Yep, Teacher just bought his azz some trouble! I see it on the news every day, Teacher suspended for such and such!!
If that were my phone, he'd pay for it.
It's called R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
Learn how to have some for the Professor and also learn about being courteous towards the other students whom are there to gain knowledge!
That's a learning institution.
He knew he would be in class
and should have left the phone outside of the classroom!
Cause and effect!
Having the parents that I used to have (both R.I.P.) the report would have gotten home and THAT would have been my arse! My Parents, didn't play and would have been in agreement with the Professor!
I agree 3000% @ Anon; 9:34 AM
I use to teach - That job SUCKS because of the entitlement that students think/feel they have. Sad thing- I was teaching at the Tech level - these were adults. But you couldn't tell!!
People today feel like they can do and say whatever they desire Screw rules and respect!!
This is college not grade school. It's time to grow up and pay attention and show some respect. And texting in class isn't it. Don't like get a job at McDonalds for the next 5 years.
Bam! Bam! Bam! Went the hammer to the phone.
This mess aint real. This is staged for sure.
Both anonymous 9:34 am and 10:04 am have a jaded sense of reality. They looks like a COLLEGE class room, there is no reason to smash a phone that somebody may have worked hard for to buy. You ask that student to turn it off or leave the class, not stoop to a juvenile level and smash it with what could be deemed as a dangerous weapon in a class room. This could have been a prank as well, but judging from the students reactions, they seemed shocked.
With all due respect Scoop, that must be the "NEW SCHOOL" way!
The way that makes children feel elite, untouchable, disrespectful and promotes a nonchalant attitude until they get out in the world and out from under their parents, that is!
And as a result - look how 'ef up a vast majority of them are! They back talk, use foul language, beat up their mom and pop and some of them will even go as far as committing murder, when they don't get their way!
I was raised"OLD SCHOOL" in a 2 Parent environment!
My father was military (Air Force) and felt that all children should be raised with love a support system and most important - discipline and while young, they should be taught how to respect older adults as well as their peers!
They were both active in the PTA and knew all the rules set forth by the Board of Education. No doubt I'll bet there are rules set forth by that young man's college where it states "No phones" in class or asks them to please turn it off before entering. Having a ringing phone in class is both disrespectful, disruptive and wastes time for both the Professor and his other Classmates! IF there was an emergency situation, also, no doubt an announcement would have been made by the Board Office, for that young man to come to the Office! The Professor was a little bit wacky and over the top as to how he chose to handle the situation, but NO DOUBT and from thereon out - everybody that attends his classes GOT THE MESSAGE!
By the way.... did you read the article about how during musical performance where the Conductor of the NY Symphony Orchestra - after hearing someone's phone ring during the performance, stopped the show because that ringing was both disruptive, disrespectful and uncouth and especially after they (the audience) were asked to shut their phones off before the program began, yet this man felt incumbent upon himself to leave his on? LOL
