RIP: Ms. Melodie Passes Away!

Former Boogie Down Productions affiliated rapper Ms. Melodie, born Ramona Parker, has died reports The Urban Daily. There is no cause of death at this time.

Ms. Melodie (also spelled Ms. Melody) was married to BDP frontman KRS-One before their divorce in 1992. In 1988, she dropped a verse on the posse cut "Self Destruction" alongside notable rappers including the late Heavy D, MC Lyte and Kool Moe Dee.

More than a rapper, the Flatbush, Brooklyn native was an activist, heading up BDP's short lived HEAL (Human Education Against Lies) initiative.

Melodie's sole album, Diva, was released in 1989.

I remember it like it was yesterday, the Self Destruction video, "I'm Ms. Melodie and I'm a born again rebel...."
