Prosecutors in Suffolk last week issued an indictment against Kimberly Artis, 39, and her boyfriend, Steven Bullock, 51, charging them with the death of Artis' 2-year-old granddaughter, Destiny Riddick, in July 2011.
Police in Portsmouth nabbed Bullock at around 4 a.m. on Friday, but
Artis was still at-large, WTKR television reported.
After the indictments were issued, Artis reportedly told police
that the couple would turn themselves in, but they never did. Destiny was found unconscious at the couple's home on July 17,
2011, and died later at a hospital.
Toxicology reports showed the tot overdosed on Suboxone, a drug
that treats addiction to prescription painkillers or heroin. Investigators said the pills were kept in a candy dish at the
couple's home.
Bullock's brother, Harvey, told WTKR that the drugs belonged to a
friend.
A cousin of Artis’ told the station that the young grandmother was
battling a drug problem and getting her life “on track” after after a recent
prison stint.
The couple faces felony murder, felony child abuse or neglect and
drug possession charges.

Sad sad story! I've never heard of someone keeping pills in a candy dish especially when there is a child in the home... Also the GRANDmother is 39!!!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteStupidity at its finest....Who keeps pills in a candy dish ( what reason would you have to do this)
ReplyDeleteThat was just an accident waiting to happen to that baby
Sad that the baby died
I'm still stuck when they said a Grandmother at 39 - WTF.
ReplyDeletePoor baby, who in the hell would like pills in a candy dish any way. That STUFF is just crazy.
Damn thats a young granny. I feel sorry for the little girl, where is the mother?
ReplyDeleteWhy no use a litte common sense......put the dish in a place that the child couldnt reach.
ReplyDeleteThats not the way it happened the child was taken to the the hospital and misdiagnosed after returning home and put to bed little destiny never woke up .. to put drugs in a candy dish was wrong but also the hospital should hold some responsibility ... so please know your information before you make comments...
