Fla. man accused of killing grandmother and great-grandmother in shooting rampage
Stevens, 22, was arrested early Sunday morning in the stolen vehicle, Ocala.com reported.
The two women he killed were his grandmother and great-grandmother. Their identities weren’t released, but next-door neighbor Steven Johnson said they had taken care of Stevens “since he was a little boy.”
Jacqueline Gonzalez, 47, was staying at the Ocala home with Stevens and the victims, as well as her 8-year-old son. Investigators said he woke her up at around 1:30 a.m. and demanded her car keys at gunpoint.
The commotion woke his grandmother and great-grandmother, and Stevens allegedly shot them both.
Then, even though Gonzalez had handed over the keys, he shot her in the face in front of the little boy and then fled the scene.
Gonzalez and her son ran next door to Johnson’s house, where he called 911.
Cops picked up Stevens in the stolen car about 20 minutes later. He reportedly refused to talk to investigators.
His grandmother and great-grandmother were dead in the living room. Gonzalez was rushed to the hospital in unknown condition. The 8-year-old boy wasn’t hurt, and Gonzales was well enough to talk to detectives.
Stevens is being held without bond on charges of felony murder, attempted felony murder, grand theft auto, robbery and driving with a suspended license.
He was just released from prison in July after serving a two-year prison term for a host of convictions including sale of marijuana and battery on an inmate. He previously served three years for a carjacking he committed when he was just 15.
