This unidentified woman was decked by a Philadelphia police officer because he believed she threw water at him.
Video from Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican Day parade over the weekend shows a
uniformed cop punching a woman in the face. The blow leaves the woman’s mouth bloody. The officer — identified as Lt.
Jonathan Josey — then handcuffs her and another cop leads her away.
Philadelphia Police Internal Affairs is investigating, according to WCAU-TV. The clip shows a group of cops gathered on North 5th St. Sunday afternoon, apparently handcuffing a man pressed up against a car.
Someone in the crowd flings water from a bottle at them, and Josey turns around in the direction it came from. He heads toward the unidentified woman, followed by a few other cops, and decks her, knocking her to the street.
The video was uploaded Sunday night, shortly after the incident, and already
has nearly 4,000 views.
Police said the woman was cited for spraying silly string at the officers, WCAU reported — though it’s not seen in the brief video.
Josey, a 19-year veteran of the Philly PD, shot and killed a man who was robbing a 7-11 at gunpoint in 2010.
In that case, a judge ruled that he was justified in using deadly force.

You can't assault a police officer with anything, period. The officers were already in a volatile situation and for her to come up behind him like that was stupid. She should have stayed her dumb a$$ on the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteI would have done the same thing.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad for her at all.
ReplyDeleteIf you watch the video closely- (Instead of assuming) you'll see that someone behind her (black t-shirt) threw water and when she got splashed she turned to see who threw the water on her- the cop just saw her walking away and assumed she was the one splashing water on them...
ReplyDeleteGuess u are not watching closely enough, because she has the silly string can in her hand and sprays that as well.
DeleteBigscoop your a clown- CLEARLY she did NOT spray ANYTHING! I agree w\ Anonymous 9:22 AM- someone behind her threw some water and the cop thought it was her!
DeleteHe couldn't have arrested and cuffed her? He's an officer and should have exercised restraint! You just walk up and steal on her? Silly string vs arrest/knocked off your feet?
ReplyDeleteStupid as fuck. That's why some of our kids get fucked up by police because they think they CAN do shit like this.
She did not do it if one watch the video instead of assuming something.
ReplyDeleteAfter playing the video several times U can see that the lady was NOT the party that had thrown the H2O.
ReplyDeleteSorry but his azz is up s^it creek w/out a paddle.
Two WRONGS dont make a RIGHT. Hence, he should have been able 2 control himself.
Wooow!!! Whoever said that the cop was in the right, i wish that your mother who got punched in the face by MISTAKE. You get decked in the face for throwing water?? He's not the fucking President. He could have roughed her up a bit for disrespecting authority but thats after he knew for a fact it was her, which it wasnt!
ReplyDeleteWOW....reading and watching is fundamental! She was not cited for throwing water, she was cited for shooting the silly string shit that is in her RIGHT hand in the video. Anybody that is STUPID enough to spray shit on a police officer should be ready for whatever consequences come from that, for EVERY action, there is a REACTION. She is NOT innocent, and Remy you know why this would never happen to my mom? my mom would not do no stupid shit like this woman did.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Scoop.
DeleteRemy, we're not saying the cop was right for what he did. Of course he could have handled the situation slightly differently. But, for her to do what she did during a time when things seemed like they were already out of hand and the cops were scrambling to gain control, was very stupid. AND, might I add, disrespectful. This was NOT the time to play, and for her dumb decision, she got dealt with, point blank.
And just like Scoop said, my mother would never get punched in the face because my mother would never be so blantly disrespectful and stupid!
My mom wouldnt be there either and if even if she did, she would have been watching from afar. Being a police officer is dangerous enough, especially in a city like Philadelphia.....the officers dont have time for nonsense like this.
DeleteI watched the vid a few times and although she has a can in her hand, it appears that she didn't shoot anything...the officer assumed she was the culprit and reacted...overreacted I should say...SMH!
ReplyDeletewHATEVER THATS POLICE BRUTALITY. IM GLAD HIS AZZ GOT FIRED. I WATCHED IT AND I DIDNT SEE HER AIM ANYTHING AT THE OFFICER. SEE WE GIVING POLICE TO MUCH POWER THATS WHY THEY KILLING GOOD KIDS WITH CELLPHONES IN THEIR HANDS.
ReplyDeleteNo, she didn't deserved to be abused, but then she shouldn't have been abusive. At the start of the video the lady comes from the left of the group of cops spraying the can with her left hand, once overhand and 2 or 3 times underhand.
ReplyDeleteI watched a man punch a woman in the damn face for some damn silly string. Whether he had on a uniform or not should make no damn difference!! HELLO!! HE PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED HER FOR SILLY STRING!!!! Heaven forbid if was GLITTER!!! What would have happened if a fight broke out... I guess he would have just started shooting people! It's ok for him to be on high alert but this was not a damn riot we're talking about. To even say that she even provoked the police officer is easily arguable because she walked off, let alone enough to be arrested. Yeah Scoop, for every action there is a reaction and he clearly OVER-reacted. And thank God his superior felt the same way because they normally stick up for their own! Something has to be wrong with your mental state to react like that and think it's ok. Some of these cops think they are above the law, morals, and ethics... and that's bad when we start to believe it.
ReplyDeleteAnd might I add, the fact that he had on a uniform makes it even WORSE because it's an officer's duty to maintain PEACE!
ReplyDeleteOK, so the issue here is not so much WHO shot the silly string. It doesn't matter WHO did it. It shouldn't have been done, PERIOD AND the cop shouldn't have reacted the way that he did. But, let's just assume that the lady DID shoot the silly string. . .
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying he was right, but neither was she, no matter WHAT it was (water, silly string, glitter, etc.) All I'm saying is, we have to start taking some responsibility for our actions. No, throwing silly string on anybody, be it a policeman, a passerby, a child in a stroller, etc. may not warrant being DDTed, but all I'm saying is, something is also wrong when we think we have the right to disrespect authority. If someone in authority tells you to stop, just stop! It's like when the cops say, "Hold your hands up!" and instead the person reaches for something in his waist or pocket and the cop shoots. Then, when it's discovered that the person had only a cell phone or a hairbrush, the public gets all mad and wants to protest. How was the cop supposed to know all that person was reaching for was a hairbrush? If he had held his hands up when the cop ordered him to do so, that all could have possibly been avoided.
Please understand I am not huge fan of cops. They urk me because of exactly what you said, Remy; they seem to have this attitude that their above the law, morals, ethics, etc. I've overheard cops at a Luby's talk about how they discourage people to file reports because they don't feel like doing the paperwork. I personally was a victim of cops not doing their jobs after my home was broken into. I see them putting their flashers and sirens on so they can avoid having to wait at traffic lights. I see them using unnecessary force or talking to people in degrading manners. Hale, one is on trial in Houston now for raping women while on duty. For the most part, I can't STAND cops. But, I am getting tired of people feeling like they don't have to respect authority. Yes, I'd be pissed if it were one of my kids or loved-ones or even myself and yes, I would want the cop to get dealt with for behaving the way he did. But that STILL would not excuse my son, my loved-one or me from being an asshole in the first place.
Glad this abuser lost his job. I hope he is sent to prison as well and gets roughed up by the real tough guys.
ReplyDeleteWAS A CAN OF$2.00 SILLY STRING IF SHE SPRAYED HIM OR NOT WAS IT REALLY THT SERIOUS IS HE THT SCARED OF WATER..........DAMN GIVE A NIGGA A BADGE AND THEY GO CRAZY AND ANYBODY WHO THINKS THIS SHIT WAS COOL U MUST BE A WOMAN BEATER!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe cop should receive the death penalty. Pig!
