Black Gay Wedding Causes Uproar Amongst Greek Fraternity!

Homophobia in the Black community is a horribly kept secret and the marriage between Robert Brown and Nathanael Gay has once again brought it to the surface. Gay is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and social media exploded with vitriolic criticism towards the couple, many stating that it was insulting to the ‘Frat’ to have a gay, Kappa wedding.

This, of course, led to a broader conversation surrounding homosexuality in general. The comment sections across various sites, including Clutch Magazine where the story was first reported, exploded with polarizing commentary, once again proving that the LGBT community and marriage equality are still hot button issues in Black America, especially when placed in the context of a traditionally, masculine Greek fraternity that proudly call themselves “Pretty Boys.”

One thing is clear from this video, these two men have the support of a lot of people who clearly love and support them. I was so happy to see the children who were allowed to participate.

This proves the point that it's not just black women who support gay, black men - despite the fact that many may not understand it, it's clear from this video that there are a lucky few who have friends and family members who still support it.

  1. The wedding was beautiful and they look like a beautiful, loving couple. I wish them the best and everyone else can fall back or either get with the program. This is 2012, not 2000 B.C.

  2. I'm not tryna be judgmental but I could definitely see them black frat brothers having a problem with this wonderful event. Those guys are chauvinistic p*ssy driven pigs! Ughhh! All they do is jump from bed to bed. Thinking it's cool And getting married don't stop nothing. They r so arrogant they do their dirt and expect nay require their wives carry themselves in the manner they themselves don't behave. Smh. Not all. But MANY of the ones I know.

  3. Not knocking their union... But women love, LOVE! They'll go to a wedding even if they could care less about who's getting married just to see a wedding...

  4. Beautiful wedding and they look happy and in love. It's still gay as hell though! Lol! Here comes the grooms... Just weird. They're some sexy brothers. I won't knock their lifestyle because I don't knock that of my fornicating, lying, partying, slutty friends. Lol! Wish them all the luck and love in the world and forget what the fraternity says.

The Bible stays the same, no matter what year it is. Just because a person is against the union of same-sex relationships/marriages doesn't mean they're homophobic. It could mean that they believe God's word.

If a fraternity or sorority was meant for heterosexuals, then they have every right to be upset when gays try to join or at least "exploit" the organizations. After all, heterosexual IS the natural order of things, PERIOD.

Having said that, the wedding was beautiful. They look happy. Their family and friends were there in GROVES. Also, I heard one of the guys on the TJMS last week and he said in no way did he mean for this wedding to be a Kappa wedding. He said he's the Kappa; not his partner. Also, red is his partner's favorite color and red is the color of love and that's why they chose red as one of their colors. And he and some of his frat brothers took ONE picture and threw up their sign, which, from my experience, is what they do, no matter WHERE they are. But, my thing is this; if the Kappas allowed him to pledge and he made it over, why couldn't he incorporate their colors in his wedding? Many people do it. ANE the Kappas don't OWN the color red. I mean, if he were a Blood and he was marrying a man, I'd probably say it's not a good idea to mess with the Bloods, but as for the Frats, shut up! If you don't want gays in your organization, you should looked to change and tighten up the rules. Until then, oh well.

    1. I hear what you're saying Women&#39's LYB (damn that's a long name). I just want to clarify the first part of your statement.

"The Bible stays the same, no matter what year it is. Just because a person is against the union of same-sex relationships/marriages doesn't mean they're homophobic. It could mean that they believe God's word."

You're right, the bible stays the same, no matter what year it is. In the bible there are accounts of one man marrying mulititudes of women and even being married to sisters at the same time! This WAS the norm in primative society. So if we are to whole believe in God's word and follow it, we wouldn't have a problem with polygamy, treating women like property and telling them to be silent, the institution of slavery and killing people because they work on Sundays and so on.

I think when people are against same sex marriage, it isn't because of a primative belief and faith on a collection of stories from years ago. They only use the bible to further advance their primative way of thinking. What's really happening is a deep, ignorance and disdain for something different OR very much like themselves that they wish not to expose.

I agree with pretty much everything else you said though and I thank you for your comment and open discussion.

Well, I don't know about "people" but I'm against it because in the Bible, GOD says it's wrong.

There are many ACCOUNTS of things that happened in the Bible that went against the laws and commandments of God, such as slavery, polygamy, homosexuality, murder, adultery, lying, stealing (I could go on and on), but let's not forget, those are the things MAN CHOSE to do. Yes, those are ACCOUNTS of what MAN did. But, keep in mind, there are also ACCOUNTS of God handing down His law. GGod gave man His commandments and they chose to do things their own way.

One example of such an account is when Adam and Eve went against God's instruction and ate the forbidden fruit. But, notice that God handed down instructions to Adam. It was Adam and Eve who decided to do heir own thing. And even though God punished them, He still loved them and continued to bless them. Another example of such an account involves Noah, the drunk. God looked beyond the fact that he abused acohol and used him to build the ark. Yet another example of such an account regards the mistreatment of the Israelites. Pharaoh was eventually dealt with for enslaving the Israelites. And, yes, the Bible does speak out against slavery and the bad treatment of women. The commandment says, "Do unto others as you woud have them do unto you." Jesus told us to love one another as God has loved us. So, if you're loving and doing unto others in the way that YOU want them to do unto you, you WOULDN'T hurt them. Moses was a murderer, yet God used him to lead His people out of bondage. David was an adulterer, a murderer, a polygamist and a bad father, but God still lead him to victory when he defeated Goliath. Abraham doubted God and often lied to protect himself. God used MANY other people who were living their lives outside of His will. That tells me that no matter who you are, where you’ve been, what you’ve done, as long as you have breath, God can still cleanse and use you.

The Bible says in Leviticus 18:9 that you should not uncover your sister's nakedness, which means, you're not supposed to have sex with your kin. Leviticus 18:22 says (and I quote), "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.". The Bible also says, in Lev 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them." I Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, (10) nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God." Then, there are the 10 Commandments which flat out tells us the things we are to do and not to do.

Even in the Biblical days, man chose to do what HE wanted to do and not necessarily what thus said the Lord. Yes, there were accounts of all of the things you named, but the Bible speaks out AGAINST all of those things.

No, I may not agree with the union of same-sex relationships, but I can STILL love you because God still loves ME in all MY faults.

When you tell someone OUT OF LOVE about the wrong they are doing, despite what some may think, that's what you're SUPPOSED to do as a Christian. But, you're not supposed to JUDGE. To God, no sin is greater than the other. It's man who put degrees on sin. As a believer, I don't want to go along with something KNOWING it's against God's word because I'll have to answer to Him for that. I'm not going to lie for you, steal for you, kill for you, etc. You may not be worried about YOUR soul, but baby, it was hot in Houston this past Saturday and if Hell is worse than THAT, I don't want any parts of it!!!

Now, since you are so smart, substitute the word "white" for "heterosexual" and substitute "black" for "gay".

      Still feel the same?

    4. Shtzkia, tell her! I'm late but I have to say just because you are a Christian doesn't mean we have to constantly hear what the Bible says about being gay. You don't like it? Fine. Keep it moving and good luck staying away from it because the world is moving on and becoming more tolerable to things and not basing it on archaic notions.

    5. Women's LYB10/16/12, 9:54 AM

Shtzskia and Anon, being BORN Black and CHOOSING to be gay are two different things, umkay? Being BORN a WOMAN and CHOOSING to be gay are two different things. I brought up women because remember, at one time women didn't have rights, almost the same as Blacks? No matter how much proof one can point out to you in the Bible, you STILL want to make your wrong a right! It's not MY word, it's God's. If you have a problem with what thus said the Lord, then take that up with Him. I don't have to answer to you when my time on this earth is over; I have to answer to God. I don't know who you have to answer to, but if it's the same God, then just know you will be held accountable for KNOWING His word but choosing to live by your own. That goes for you, me and everyone else. So, if you're happy doing you, fine. . .do you and I'll do me.

It's obvious that both you and Anon only see/read hear what you want to. I didn't say anything about judging anyone for anything that they do. But, it kills me that when someone says they're against gay relationships, gays and their supporters get all bent out of shape. I don't have to condone what people do and STILL coexist with them, get it? I have had MANY gay friends; CLOSE friends. It still didn't mean I agreed with their lifestyle. If my child was a dope dealer, I can still LOVE him while disagreeing with his lifestyle. But, you don't get that parallel because you don't think being gay is wrong, right? Look, just because I say I'm against something doesn't mean I HATE the person; please get that through your one-tracked minds.

It also baffles me that just because the world is becoming tolerable of things, y'all think it's OK to jump on that bandwagon. That is NOT what God is about. He's not about becoming tolerable or accepting of what man wants to do; God laid down His law. You either live by it or live against it. The choice is yours.

    6. So when you get up every morning, you choose to be straight? No one chooses to be gay. With all the idiot people in the world, why would anyone chose that?

How do you know what God is about? You know what man has SAID God is about. I deal with theologians, not bible thumpers who quote scripture like parrots without having deeper understanding.

God made me just like he made you and God don't make junk.

    7. Women's LYB10/17/12, 10:03 AM

Yes, when I get up every morning, I choose to be straight. When I get up every morning, I choose to love thy neighbor. When I get up in the morning, I choose not to steal. When I get up in the morning, I choose not to kill. When I get up in the morning, I choose not to commit adultery. Get it? Yes, I choose not to KNOWINGLY do those things that I know are against God. I don't CHOSSE to be Black; that's what I AM. The flesh is WILLING to sin; it's up to us to CHOOSE to fight the flesh and the only way we can do that is with God.

With all the prisons and punishments for people who kill and steal and rape, etc. Why would anyone choose that?

How do I know what God is about? Well dear, I know what I've read in the Bible and what's been taught by my mother and grandmother and THEOLOGIANS. I know that I have to trust that the men who wrote the Bible were God-chosen. That's what faith is; knowing the things you can't see. I know that when you really evaluate God's commandments, you'll find that even non-believers follow some of the basic rules: Thou shalt not lie; Thou shalt not kill; Thou shalt not steal; Thou shalt not bear false witnesses; Thou shalt not covet; Honor thy father and mother. It doesn't take a believer in God to believe in those basic principles of life. So, that is proof enough that God can't be too far from what the "men" in the Bible says He is. And I know that I'd rather live my live BELIEVING that there is a God that I will have to answer to when it's all over and then getting to the end, only to find out there is no God than to live a wreck less, care-free life, only to get to the end and find out that there IS a God and my soul is doomed. Hell is a scary place to me; I'd rather not take my chances.

What do YOU know about God? You know what you WANT Him to be in order to justify your lifestyle.

I didn't call you junk. . .where did you get that from? But, I think you called me a Bible thumper who quote scriptures like parrots without having a deeper understanding. . .You don't know me. I'm FAR from a Bible thumper and I don't quote scriptures like parrots and my understanding is deeper than you could ever know via this internet.

And, did you not get the part where I said God still loves US, even in our wrongdoing? Again, it's not my job to judge AND I DON'T. I don't teach my children to judge either. Just last Friday my 10 year-old and I were in the shoe department of a store and this young man who was dressed like a woman assisted us. My son kept staring at him and I ordered him to stop! I told him people probably stare at him and treat him effed up all the time, so just stop it! I was extra nice to him because I could see how uncomfortable he was and my heart went out to him. I thought about the abuse and mistreatment he's probably experienced in his life and it really made me want to cry. Anyway, pretty soon, my son didn't see a young man dressed like a young girl; he saw a PERSON and before we could leave out of that area, my son said, "Mama, I like him! He's nice!" And I told him, "That's all that matters."

I think you confuse me with some of the other people you may have experienced in your life. I believe what I believe, there's no doubt about that. But AGAIN, and for the last time, I would NEVER choose my causal relationship with someone based on their sexual orientation. If we chose to be friends with only those who are perfect, we'd all be friend-LESS.

You may comment if you want to but this will be my last comment on this issue. You seem to be a little upset and I don't want things to get out of hand.

      Good day!

  12. I hope when I have a civil union I look that good with my partner. The pics were really inspiring. I have not been to a union between two brothers or seen pics of one (except on Noah's Arc) but seeing it for real makes me so proud how far we have come.

And then there will always be some who will quote religion to justify hatred, bigotry, and the oppression of others and it is sad that many that use religion are those that come from groups that have been oppressed themselves. To Women's LYB and those that share her sentiments I say this to you.

Firstly, I respect your right to choose what path in life you choose to take, but that does not give you the right to impose those views on others who hold differing beliefs and/or morals!

Secondly, you quote scriptures you yourself admit was written over 2000 years ago and by MEN to justify your arguments. Civilization has moved on since then. Would we now feel it just and/or civilized to now stone a woman for adultery? How can you speak about God's or your own "love" when to back up your argument with quotes from Leviticus that speak about putting someone to death! Jesus NEVER spoke about killing anyone!

Thirdly, to simply say because something is written in the Bible over 2000 years ago equates that it must be right shows the lack of intellectual maturity in your argument not least because the Bible has been re written many times by people over the years to justify what our understanding of the world is from one period of history to another. There are MANY pieces of scripture that are NOT included in the official versions of the Bible

Fourthly, 3000-2000 years ago we believed the world was flat and that the sky was heaven where God and the Angels lived (remember the story of the Tower of Babel). It was believed that the Sun orbited the Earth, and humans had always resided on this planet and the Earth was created in 7 days! In the 1400c when we became more aware of our world and our place in it people started to question things. People like Galileo was put to death as a heretic because they challenged the simplistic unscientific views of our world. Do we today say the world is flat? Do we find human bones where we find Dinosaurs? Do we say that God and the Angels live in the clouds? Can we see evidence of any human being that lived to 800-900 years apart from the mythology written in the Old Testament? Do we date our world to being 7000-8000 years old as what we are to believe if we take the teachings from Genesis to be true? Would we still say that a woman's place in this world is secondary to that of a mans? Of course we don't because our understanding of the world has changed and developed as we as a species have understood our world better. This understanding has also to be applied to how we as human beings adapt to our understanding of each other and human behaviors. Three hundred years ago it would have been seen as unthinkable for a woman to work, have an occupation or be educated. A woman's place was for child rearing. Only female slaves worked, and only women from aristocratic backgrounds were allowed to be educated, and even then their place was still to be in the home. That way of life existed in the times of the Old and New Testaments. We would rightly find these views detestable today!
