Waitress Fired for Posting Receipt from Cheap "Pastor"...

Be careful what you post on Reddit. It may just get you canned. But damn that, what church is this selfish, b*tch pastoring at?

Earlier this week, an Applebee’s waitress posted a photo on Reddit of a receipt from an alleged pastor who, instead of leaving the suggested 18 percent tip, wrote “I give God 10%, why should you get 18.” Now, after the bill went viral, Applebee's has fired the waitress, according to Consumerist.

“I thought the note was insulting, but it was also comical," the waitress, whose name is Chelsea, told Consumerist. "I posted it to Reddit because I thought other users would find it entertaining."
Apparently once the receipt hit the Internet, the supposed pastor forgot the Golden Rule of “love thy neighbor” and called the Applebee’s where Chelsea works to demand that she and all management involved be fired.

In an email sent to The Huffington Post, Applebee's spokesperson Dan Smith wrote:
Our Guests’ personal information – including their meal check – is private, and neither Applebee’s nor its franchisees have a right to share this information publicly. We value our Guests’ trust above all else. Our franchisee has apologized to the Guest and has taken disciplinary action with the Team Member for violating their Guest’s right to privacy. This individual is no longer employed by the franchisee.

The pastor is not the first to write an excuse on a receipt to get out a hefty tip on a bill. A single mom recently opted out of a tip on a restaurant bill for close to $140 by simply writing, “single mom sorry.” Another Applebee’s customer in Edison, NJ, wrote “stop eating bitch!” on the receipt rather than leave some gratuity for his server.

Our colleagues at HuffPost Comedy have started a petition with hopes of convincing Applebee's to rehire Chelsea.

  1. Maybe she sucked as a waitress. That's why she didn't get a tip.

    1. This is all over Yahoo, the Pastor was with a party of 8, and at most restaurants, any party over 4 people has a automatic tip added to the bill. This pastor is wrong and exposes what is wrong with many hypocritical "pastors".

    2. She should go to his church & steal her tip from the collection plate. I know I would.

    3. So um, what were they drinking or eating if this was a party of 8 or a party of 20? for $34? Or was this just his bill? It it is just his bill and it is a party of 4 or more, each one should give up 10% of their bill. That waitress is not coming back to the table to waite on each person one at a time, she is coming once and taking everyone's order all at the same time.

Now, I'm not saying he shouldn't have tipped her, but I understand.

  2. According to The Consumerist, the receipt was not uploaded to Reddit by the Applebee’s worker who waited on Bell’s party. Instead, the server showed it to waitress Chelsea Welch, who photographed the receipt and later shared it online.

  4. Karma is a mother effer! If the collection plate came back empty one Sunday Morning. One could only wonder what would the pastor say?

  5. I heard it was a party of 20 and the bill was over $200. It was an understanding that the server was very pleasant.
For me I don't tip extra if the tip is automatically added to the bill. I definitely won't write a note on it.

I don't think the pastor is cheap at all. I think these resturaunts are cheap for not paying their employees a decent wage and then expect the customers to pay them, as if the customers are their employers. Why should I have to tip you for doing what you were hired to do? No one tips me at my job. Granted, I know that people who hold service jobs EXPECT tips, but why can't they EXPECT a decent salary from their employers? And, if I'm expected to pay based on the SERVICE I receive, why is my tip based on the amount of money I spend on my food and drinks?

In other countries, tipping is not customary or expected.

    1. Ok..but would you punish the service worker because the industry dictates that they work for 3.00 an hour?

No, I do not punish the service worker. I do tip. In some instances, I'm more than thrilled to tip (when I've received exceptional service, when a waiter interacts with my child, etc.). It still doesn't change my opinion on the topic, though. Instead of raising the tipping scale to keep up with the cost of living, why don't the businesses raise the pay scale? Other employers do it. I bet the BIG people in these companies are being compensated very well while the wait staff is being nickeled and dimed. In some countries, service workers make $15 an hour. Why is it than in America the "richest" country in the world, these people make below minimum wage? That should be illegal!

  7. Cheap preacher. Bet some of her church members want to fire her from time to time bc of her dull sermons.

  8. How about forcing restaurants to pay their waiting staff a better wage so that customers don't have to make up their income? The customer should give a tip when the service was good (I've worked as a waitress for years!) and not because it's expected.
